Welcome to the Cambridge Foodies

What started as a personal mission to share my love for a good curry has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined. The Cambridge Foodies is now a thriving community of over 21,000 people, all united by one thing: a deep, genuine love for the Cambridgeshire food & drink scene. Whether you are hunting for the best local restaurant or looking to uncover hidden gems, you are in the right place.

A little about me…

Hello, my name is Simon! I have been writing about the Cambridgeshire food scene for 17 years.

I was born in Cambridge but spent most of my childhood in Waterbeach. Growing up, my mum cooked a huge variety of international dishes. While it might have been tame by modern foodie standards, it gave me a really open mind about food from a young age.

My father was a regular on the Cambridge curry circuit throughout the 70s and 80s, and that passion definitely rubbed off on me. As I got older, I was out several times a week sampling every Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant I could find. It started with the usual rite of passage – trying to eat the spiciest thing on the menu – but the more I explored, the more I realised how much depth this cuisine has to offer. That was where my foodie journey began.

I eventually moved to the Ely area, where I have happily resided for the past 15 years. I have always used writing as a way to decompress; I actually struggled with English at school, so I started this blog specifically to improve my skills. I knew I would work harder at it if I knew that others were reading along.

Beyond the plate, I am deeply committed to our community. I have previously supported a friend in running a wheelchair access blog, campaigning for better accessibility across Cambridgeshire – an experience that highlighted how important it is for everyone to be included and enjoy our local venues. I am a big believer in bringing people along with me, which is why I have also created several communities for local people who share my passion (see below).

I studied Economics and Mathematical Science at university, and I am always keen to write more. If you would like me to write for your publication, please get in touch here.

Meet our team

Our Cambridge Foodies mod team

Our dedicated team of moderators work tirelessly around the clock to ensure all our community members can enjoy a relaxed and safe environment. We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their passion for the local food scene without judgement or snobbery.

We have zero tolerance for bullying and work hard to strike a careful balance by fostering freedom of expression while also protecting local businesses from unfair or unnecessary criticism. This project simply could not function without them juggling thousands of comments every month. Our team are all passionate volunteers fuelled entirely by their love for the community and, of course, great food.

Your voice matters

We are a community blog!

This means we welcome passionate foodies to write for us and share their unique takes on our culinary landscape.

Our growing team of local contributors bring a rich tapestry of opinions and insider knowledge, making this a truly comprehensive resource.

Everyone is welcome, so if you fancy contributing to the blog, get in touch with Simon here.

Locally focussed, locally supported!

The Cambridge Foodies project is all about our local community and the brilliant independent restaurants across the county.

It would be easy enough to fund this expensive project by sticking pop-up banners and random adverts all over the site, but they don’t add anything to your experience and usually have nothing to do with Cambridgeshire.

Instead, we work directly with local spots that value and understand what we’re doing.

Every bit of advertising revenue goes straight back into keeping the blog running and supporting the local restaurant industry.

If you want to get involved, join our communities below or email Simon here.
