Wrapunzel – Yorkshire pudding wraps in Girton

I nearly exploded with excitement when I heard that there is a food van opening in Cambridge that sells Yorkshire pudding wraps! 🤯

Advert – Lalbagh Indian restaurant, Bourn

Their name is Wrapunzel and it was their debut night in front of St Andrews church in Girton. Naturally, I was there like a shot as I had never heard of anything quite like it in my life. Apparently, this is all the rage up north, so,  I had to see it for myself and see what all the fuss is about.

Waiting to be wrapped

The idea is simple; a full roast dinner that is wrapped up in a giant Yorkshire pudding, served with either beef, chicken, or cauliflower cheese (v). It’s so beautiful that it nearly brought a tear to my eye.

The wrap opened up

I ordered the beef wrap. This is made of shin beef from a local butcher that is slow cooked for 8 hours. My initial concern when ordering this was that the beef may be too tough to eat in a wrap but the slow cooking process makes the beef extra tender.

All wraps come with crispy roast potatoes, leafy greens, stuffing and their signature gravy.

The ratios were really good. Meaning, tonnes of meat, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes… and a small garnish of greens 😂

I couldn’t really taste the presence of stuffing but they got the gravy balance just right. There was enough gravy to make it juicy without saturating the wrap.

The Yorkies were a good size and held their structural integrity really well. It wasn’t anywhere near as messy as I thought it was going to be, especially considering I opened the wrap to take a photo.

I also noticed Loaded Roasties on their menu. This is exactly what you would expect, borrowing the idea from the popular Loaded Fries you see frequently across Cambridge.

You are given an option of griddled cheese, beef, chicken, and cauliflower cheese. I forgot to try these during my visit but I will definitely be ordering this on my next visit!

Conclusion

Advert – Sushi & Salad

I was joined by a few friends who all ordered the same wrap as me. Wrapunzel had unfortunately underestimated the popularity of their opening night and had run out of chicken and cauliflower cheese options. These are common teething problems that often occur with an opening night. I am sure it won’t happen again if you go to visit for yourself but it did limit how much we could explore for the review.

Either way, we were all in agreement that beef Yorkie wraps at Wrapunzel were delicious and a truly unique idea. It is something we all said we would order again. It’s early days but it might already be one of my favourite food vans!

This is a must try!
