Mill Mediterranean Coffee Spot, Mill Road

My wife and I popped down Mill Road after getting an unexpected couple of hours free from the kids. We stumbled across the cafe where we first met over ten years ago and the nostalgia got the better of us, especially since it was the day after Valentine’s Day.

The cafe used to be called CB1 but has since changed hands and is now called Mill Mediterranean Coffee Spot, a Greek cafe that serves pastries and desserts.

It was a busy Saturday afternoon and we weren’t expecting to do a review, so we didn’t take many photos, so here is a link to their Instagram page.

We started with a giant doughnut that was, in fact, so big that we were able to share it between us. The doughnut was covered in powdered sugar. The dough was refreshingly not overly sweet and felt like a more substantial savoury snack with a hint of sweetness instead.

Now, I’ll be honest. It was busy and we simply pointed at what we wanted like an inpacient toddler who just saw something he liked. So I was not able to recall the name of the dishes we had but mine felt like a type of tyropita(?). What I can say, however, is that it was delicious!

It is a circular pastry dish made with ham and cheese that is then cut into pizza esc slices, which suggest that it might have been made to share…but, you know. I didn’t.

It consists of multiple layers, adding a lovely crispiness which is met with the soft gooeyness of the cheese and ham as you bite in. It was a satisfying texture but the flakey layers did make a bit of a mess! 🤣

I enjoyed the simplicity of the dish while still managing to be exciting and not so heavy that it spoiled my dinner. I could see myself grabbing this again and even trying to cook it at home.

The tea and coffee were both really good and the service was incredibly prompt considering the chaos.

A perfect light snack between meals

My wife and I were a little sad to see that our cafe had changed hands since our first date but we were pleased to see that it is now being transformed into a delightful Greek cafe that was not only equally as good but also offered a great selection of pastry dishes on top.  I can really see myself coming back here again in the future and exploring the wide selection of other sweet treats that caught my eye. I’ll have to make sure I do a better job of remembering what I had next time 🤣
