Marvin’s Sandwiches, Green Street

Marvin’s Sandwiches has recently landed on Green Street, bringing its promise of “outrageously good sandwiches” right to the heart of Cambridge.

Lalbagh Indian restaurant, Bourn

As someone rarely in the city centre during the day, I made a special effort to visit after being lured in by their mean-looking sandwiches on Instagram.

Very Cambridge

The cafe is colourful and quirky, instantly fitting in with a vibrant Green Street. Its personality perfectly reflects the eclectic Cambridge scene, making it feel like a part of the landscape already.

Matcha

I started my visit by ordering a matcha and settling into the window seat. The custom-fitted seating is designed to maximise the limited space, allowing the cafe to comfortably accommodate more guests. The matcha itself was a pleasant start; sweet, refreshing, and boasting a smooth, frothy texture that wasn’t overly thick.

Big Sandwiches!

Matcha is all well and good, but I was here for the sandwiches. The menu offers a focused, well-curated selection with three breakfast options (served before 11AM), five signature sandwiches, and a rotating speciality.

The line-up shows real flair, including vegetarian and vegan choices, alongside bolder options, like the quirky Fish Finger Sandwich (£11), the vibrant Caribbean Chilli Chicken (£11), and a Salt Beef Bagel (£9). The current speciality is ‘The Seoul Mate’ made with slow-braised Korean beef brisket. There was a lot to get excited about.

Salty beef!

I ordered two sandwiches because I am completely out of control with no self control.

My first choice was their signature Salt Beef Sandwich. It is a simple but tried-and-true recipe that included pickles, mustard, and their in-house made beef. Served on a purest white bloomer, it was impossibly soft with a lovely thick crust and came absolutely loaded with a thick layer of incredibly juicy beef. Simple? Yes. Amazing? Absolutely.

Right in the childhood nostalgia!

From the moment I saw it, I knew the Fish Finger Sandwich was a must. This is not the ‘trashy freezer job’ from your childhood but an artistically prepared sandwich that hits me right in the childhood nostalgia. It features double-stacked fish fingers, tartar sauce, lettuce, and little matchstick potato crisps that added a lovely crunch.

Mill Road

Just like the salt beef, the fish finger sandwich was absolutely loaded, solidifying Marvin’s reputation as a small cafe that does seriously big sandwiches.

Go big or go home!

Ely

There is zero chance of being starvin’ at Marvin’s. The sandwiches are huge, built with interesting and meticulously thought-out flavour combinations. They didn’t overly complicate it, just executed it really well. In fact, I am already planning my next trip back to try The Seoul Mate special.

Marvin’s delivers on its promise of a seriously satisfying lunch and deserves a spot on any Cambridge foodie’s list.
