This is an update from my in-depth review from last year (click here to read)
It’s not often I backtrack on the Cambridge Foodies blog but a handful of places offer such a truly unique experience in Cambridge, that I simply had to revisit.

It was a sunny bank holiday afternoon and I had a few hours spare, so I decided to take advantage of the beautiful riverside views at The Engineers House for some craft beer and a wood-fired pizza.

The Engineers House is a mix of Cambridge history and casual holiday vibes, under the watchful gaze of the iconic chimney of ‘The Cambridge Museum of Technology’. It’s a beautiful location with one of the best places for people-watching in the city.

The pizza menu is small and concise, with four vegetarian options, two vegan options and only one meat option available. Prices hover between ÂŁ14-17 each with ÂŁ15 being the average price.
Craft beer
Numnuts here forgot to take a photo of the beer board but there are 8 choices, ranging from stout, lager, pale ales and an IPA. It is great to see the local brewery, Calverly’s Brewery, available too.

My guest went for a pint of guest beer, called ‘Bavo Pilsner’, served at 4.2% (left). Being ‘Mr Local’, I couldn’t resist the lure of the Calvery’s own Hazy Pale (right), served at 5.4%.

Pizza
Being a beautiful bank holiday weekend, it was understandably very busy, which resulted in our pizzas being a 40 minute wait. These things cannot be helped during times of such demand and the fact that the pizzas are so popular is only a reassuring sign. The important thing was that the wait was clearly stated by the team before purchase, showing excellent communication skills, not often found across the city. The pizzas turned up exactly as promised, bang on 40 minutes.

My guest ordered the only meat option available on the menu – the pepperoni. It came with not only mozzarella but grated parmesan cheese on top. This gave the pizza a strong and tangy flavour that really worked. The crust was thin, crispy, and considerably less dry than my last visit, which was one of my only gripes at the time. Refined! 👌

I ordered a vegetarian pizza called ‘the Mediterranean’. This came with the same thin and crispy base as the pepperoni but with black olives, peppers, and sun dried tomatoes. I found it to be a vibrant and light pizza with the sun dried tomatoes offering a refreshing succulence and flavour, while the black olives added a salty pop.
Conclusion

I truly love The Engineers House. On a sunny day, there is no better place to be in Cambridge. You can sit back and relax with a craft beer and a pizza while watch the world go by. The pizzas have also improved since my last visit, no longer being as dry as before. I would have liked to see more meat options on the menu and I felt that an anchovy option would have worked well but otherwise I couldn’t fault it.
Thank for reading
