I am proud to say that Sutton Spice is my local Indian restaurant. I was never able to say this many years ago, with the previous restaurant consistently failing to hit the mark.

Since its transformation, it is now a place I eat at frequently. Their Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine never leaves me feeling disappointed and better still, it is the best place for a pint in the village, with Kingfisher now on draft. Something no other pub or club in the area can match.

Spice is home to the Tuesday Night Banquet Deal that offers a starter, mains, rice/naan for a mere £12.95 (king prawns +£3), which might just be the best deal in Cambridgeshire! 🤩
Papadums

We started off with your usual papadums, along with five different side sauces. This is a refreshing change from the 3 to 4 you normally get and also includes my beloved lime pickle.
Starters

My wife and I both picked a starter each, as part of the meal deal. My wife had the onion bhajis that were beautifully crispy and had a really soft texture in the middle. They were a little small but perfectly executed. Delicious!

My samosas looked a little bland by eye but turned out surprisingly good. Each one had a satisfyingly crispy shell with lightly spiced mixed vegetables in the middle.
Mains

For our mains I ordered my usual chicken tikka vindaloo and my wife had the chicken tikka masala.

The chicken tikka masala had a bright ruby red colour that really made it stand out from the table. I tried some myself and I thought it was very sweet and creamy, with a nice thick sauce that had thinly cut chunks of chicken that had been tikka’d so well.

My vindaloo had a healthy brown colour and was garnished with herbs and spring onions. The vindaloos at Sutton Spice have always lived up to the name of the restaurant and are served with a real fiery kick that challenges hot heads even like myself.

As with the chicken tikka masala, the vindaloo was accompanied by chicken that was tikka’d to perfection. The chicken was cut into thin strips that allowed more of the surface area to be coloured. It was tender and very juicy.

On top of the meal deal, I also ordered a saag aloo. This is, in my opinion, the ultimate dish to accompany a curry. The portion size was about right and the potatoes were nice and soft. The spinach was cooked with precision without being too soggy or without being too dry. It was a great example of how the Saag aloo should be.
Another night of consistent quality

As part of my Cambridge Foodies journey eating across Cambridgeshire, I have discovered so many new and exciting dishes from all over the world. But after visiting Sutton Spice again tonight, I am firmly reminded why my heart belongs to Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. There’s just nothing quite like having a mid-week curry with a pint of Kingfisher and a spicy vindaloo. People forget how great the value is and it is a cuisine that I will never tire of. I am truly blessed to have such a quality one right on my doorstep.
