Wing Brothers — Newmarket Road

Invite – click here.

I was thoroughly impressed with my visit to Grill Brothers last month but little do people know that they also have a separate section called ‘Wing Brothers’. This, as I am sure you have already guessed, serves a selection of chicken wings and burgers. It all operates from the same place but offers an entirely different menu, adding even more choice to their already wide selection.

Advert – Lalbagh Indian restaurant, Bourn

Located opposite the Cambridge United stadium on Newmarket Road, this is a takeaway and delivery restaurant that also has some seating inside in the form of bar stools. For more information on the restaurant click here for my previous review.

Korean chicken wings

I am a big fan of Korean wings, so naturally, I went for their Korean boneless bites. These are absolutely beautiful!

Being boneless, it made them much easier to eat on the go but more importantly, it means you can stick one in your mouth whole for a sweet, sticky, and very spicy EXPLOSION in your mouth 🤣 I don’t take the word spicy lightly either. I am a real hot head and thought these had a really kick to them, so watch out! 10/10! 🇰🇷

Buffalo wings

Next up was the buffalo wings. These bad boys come with the brothers signature buffalo sauce and were also superb. They weren’t as spicy as the Korean ones but they still had a nice warmth to them. The chopped spring onion gave them a lovely fresh crunch and the wings were thick and juicy.

Loaded southern fried chicken fries

From their ‘Loaded Fries’ section of the menu, we were treated to some ‘southern fried chicken fries’. These are southern fried chicken strips topped with cheddar cheese, house ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, spring onions and chives – all slathered on top of a bed of fries. The fries were pretty standard but the toppings were so generous you barely noticed.

The toppings took up half of the box and were impossible to stop picking at. Even after I was thoroughly defeated with my meal and bursting at the seams, I still found myself pecking at the chips. Portions sizes are also generous, making them ideal to share between two people.

Chicken burger

I enjoyed their buttermilk chicken burger which comes as a breaded chicken breast with lettuce, mayonnaise, American cheese, topped on a toasted sesame seed bun.

This is a classic and very straight forward chicken burger but executed really well. It is thick and crispy with a lovely tender centre. It also comes with a generous lettuce portion which gave it a lovely crunch. It was a good size for the price, making it great value. The iconic chicken burger can be temperamental and easy to mess up but the Grill Brothers nailed it.

Chicken and kofta

For those of you who read my last review of the Grill Brothers, the only gripe I had throughout the entire review was the kofta. Since my last review, I have been told that they have changed the type of kofta they order and my word, does it show!

Previously, I had found these very tough and dry but this was an entirely different story. It was soft, juicy, and flavorful with a lovely soft pink colour in the middle. Absolutely perfect!

The chicken was also superb. You’d be forgiven by looking at it that it would be dry but it was incredibly juicy. The chicken was screaming flavour and it is versatile enough to go with anything or eat on its own. It is not often I get chicken this flavorful, so I enjoyed it on its own without any sauces and simply savoured it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Wing Brothers this evening. I will be thinking about those Korean wings for days. I noticed a ‘wings bros platter’ that offers bulk purchasing deals on their wings, tenders, and boneless bites. I might have to revisit for their 24 piece of Korean wings because they are simply incredible!

If you are a fan of Wing Brothers or love a freebie, I also noticed this deal available. Leave a review and get some Potato Tots on the house. Not bad for a few minutes of work.
