Cambridge Market: Pinchito’s Spanish meal deals

As part of my new journey through the iconic Cambridge market, I started with a popular Spanish vegetarian stall called Pinchito’s.

Market location: Line C (C4)

Advert – Lalbagh Indian Restaurant, Bourn

I never realised how hard Pinchito’s would be to find in the bustling madness of the market square. There are far more food stalls than I was expecting. Despite being located in Row C (C4), I could not see any sign posting, so I had to dive in and hunt it down myself.

The best meal deal in the city

Pinchito’s claims to have the “best meal deal in the city” with a sandwich, a half portion of brava (or aubergine chips), and a drink for £7.50.

Individually, a sandwich from Pinchito’s comes to £5.50 and a full portion of bravas potatoes costs £4.50 (£2.25 for a half portion). There is no price for a can of coke on its own but this puts the combined meal deal total to  £7.75 + a drink, likely saving you between £1.75-2.25.

Not bad!

I was presented with this rather fetching sandwich called the SVS. It consists of Spanish omelette, grated tomato, lettuce, and aioli. The bread is baked fresh themselves, giving it a bun designed exactly to their specifications, meaning it was strong enough to hold together whatever they packed in and had a real thick density that filled you up.

Together it creates a delicately flavoured and creamy sandwich that will be enough to keep you going throughout the day. The perfect lunch.

The half portion of bravas was fantastic and served with a big dollop of garlicy aioli. It reminded me of the triple cooked potato cubes from Tu Casa the other night. I found theirs to be far too crispy without any centre but the ones at Pinchito’s were perfect. These bad boys were bigger with a much fluffier body. The skin was still crispy but without sacrificing the foundations of the potato in the process.

I ended my visit with some churros served with dark chocolate. These were served warm and sweet, with a crispy skin that really worked well with the rich dark chocolate.

Conclusion

Sushi & Salad, Ely

I learned a lot from my trip to the Cambridge Market. It’s a part of the city I never get too, mostly due to geographical reasons but I am definitely going to explore it more. I never realised how much there is going on until I dived in. It almost feels like a foodie under world hidden in plain sight.

As for Pinchito’s, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rafael was an absolute delight and clearly passionate about what he does. The food is quick, delicious, and interesting. There aren’t a huge amount of Spanish places in the city, so Pinchito’s is a very welcome addition and offers the best value Spanish food around.
