‘Invite’
It has been a long time coming but I am finally back at the Tiffin Truck! I absolutely loved my previous experience when it first opened many years ago but I have never been able to find the time to pop back. That changed however when I caught wind that they have a new breakfast menu. No longer could I contain my excitement and headed straight over with the family.

The new breakfast menu has only been going since yesterday (8th July 2023) and is half price until the end of July. Breakfast is only available on Saturday and Sundays for now and runs from 9am-11:30am.

Upon entering, I noticed that the place is rammed full of people looking for that authentic Indian breakfast experience. I saw couples and big families alike eating together. There are also high chairs and a baby changing toilet in the back making this great for children.

I noticed that the back room has had a lot of work done and looks absolutely spectacular! There is so much light and the interior decorating is gorgeous with lots of vibrant colours. The restaurant is a really pleasant place to be and there is even talk of an open plan kitchen coming soon, so watch this space!

We were presented with a very large breakfast menu which contained lots of choice. There’s a really good allergies key down the bottom which tells you if there are nuts, dairy, and whether things are vegan. Kids breakfasts are also available.
There are two options for a breakfast set menu which gives you a bit of everything. There is a choice between the ‘Bombay Breakfast’ and ‘South Indian Breakfast’. These are usually priced at £14.99.

I had the Bombay Breakfast. This absolute monster of a dish came with the works – omelette, Suji ka halwa (semolina pudding), aloo paratha (potato stuffed flatbread), poori bhaji (puffed bread and potato fritter), dosa (thin pancake), dhokla (a sort of savory sponge), poha (flatbread rice dish) and a choice of tea, coffee or juice. This came accompanied with a selection of sides which made the dish more exciting and let you make your breakfast your own.

I had a ‘South Indian Filter Coffee’ which was beautifully presented in a metal cup. The portion was quite small but I thoroughly enjoyed it as it was strong and quite sweet with a nice froth on top. It complimented the breakfast very well.

My wife had the ‘South Indian Breakfast’ which consisted of omelette, kesari ponga (a potato snack/fritter), dosa, idly (savory rice cake), poori bhaji, and a choice between coffee, tea, or a juice. My wife felt that even though the breakfast was large and substantial, it was also quite light and she thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal.

She also tried a ‘masala chai’ tea which was milky with a hint of spices (ginger?). I had a sip of this and I thought it was delicious!

My son picked one of the ‘Tiffin Truck Specials’ called ‘beef and paratha’. This was one of the highlights of the meal for us as the beef was absolutely sublime. It was so tender, flavourful, and spread across the paratha really well which made eating a painless experience.

My son helped himself to a mango lassi. This is a cold yogurt based drink which you may know from our typical the British-Indian restaurants to tame a fiery curry but is a refreshing and delicious drink in its own right. I thought this was a delicious take and enjoyed the fact it was served in a jug. I would recommend this during the hot weather at the moment!

We also sampled another Tiffin Truck special, the ‘channa bhatura’ a bread dish with a channa masala chickpea side dish. This was a great sharing dish between the table that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
What an amazing breakfast! I have always been a big fan of the Tiffin Truck for years and this breakfast menu only consolidates my love for the restaurant further. Everything is delicious and being currently at 50% off until the end of July this is proving to be a real bargain too. I am really enjoying the new interior which adds a vibrant pop to the restaurant and seeing it so busy just goes to show that I am not the only one who thinks so. I am looking forward to the open plan kitchen so we can watch the chef do his work and add a bit more life and excitement to the Tiffin Truck experience down the line.
Make sure you get down here and give their new breakfast a go! Don’t forget to let us know how you get on in the Cambridge Foodies!
