“ad” – Why is this here?
Regular readers will know I have been a fan of Grill Brothers for years. They offer that quality to value balance that would easily make it my regular takeaway spot if I lived a little closer. Knowing how great they are in Cambridge, I couldn’t wait to see how they shaped up now that they have opened a brand new location over in Newmarket.

Stepping inside, the new restaurant looks great. It is noticeably more modern than the Cambridge location, featuring significantly more seating and plenty of light. There is more light, a cleaner feel, and a lot of great looking branding across the walls.

It is worth noting that unlike the Cambridge branch which also houses Wing Brothers, this site is purely Grill Brothers. That means you might not get the same choice of incredible wings for now, though I am hoping that will come over to Grill Brothers soon.
The Food

The undisputed star of the show was the mixed donner plate. Served with fresh salad, pita bread, and a selection of sauces. The lamb donner meat was great quality. It was cooked so light and cleanly, and a far cry from those dirty donners we all know and fear! It was brilliantly paired with beautifully marinated chicken shawarma that had a beautiful colour that matched the flavour.
Crispy Wings & Mac ‘n’ Cheese Bites

Even though Grill Brothers is missing their Wing Brothers brethren. The fried chicken wings were still beautiful. They were definitely more simple and less extravagant but were still extra crispy and lightly seasoned, resulting in a classic example of text book fried chicken. Alongside them, I had the mac and cheese bites that featured a lovely crispy skin with a soft, gooey middle that will satisfy anyone. They were a little small and I would love to see a bigger version of this, but they still made a fantastic side portion that was impossible to stop picking at.
Brothers Triple Beef Stacker

I ordered their biggest burger on the menu…and it was absolutely massive! To be honest, it looked a little overdone on the outside, but once you bit into it, it revealed a lovely soft meat with a wonderful pinking, and surprisingly, I couldn’t taste any charcoal. Having thick patties made a refreshing change from the saturation of smash burgers currently on the market. The bun was definitely the weak link and I found it quite bland. It held together throughout most of the experience but lost its structural integrity towards the end, so I would recommend ordering a single or a double! The burger overall felt like it was missing an x-factor, like a high calibre sauce or some extra toppings.
Verdict
Grill Brothers has landed in Newmarket and is a fine addition to the town. If you live in the local area, there is a new takeaway sheriff in town, and it is well worth a visit.

The kebab and the crispy chicken are definitely my recommendations for people from Newmarket who are new to Grill Brothers. The burger needs work, though I partly blame myself for ordering something so monstrously big. For your cheap and cheerful Friday night takeaway, this is a great option for locals, especially if Wing Brothers joints them down the line, then this place will absolutely slap the competition!
