King Street is a great place to eat

King Street has long been famous for its legendary pub crawl, but these days, that multi-pub marathon is virtually non-existent. However, the street hasn’t lost its buzz; over the last few years, it has quietly transformed into one of the best food streets in the city. If you fancy a change from the usual city centre chains, this is exactly where you need to head. The variety down here is brilliant right now, offering everything from on-site made craft beer to independent global cuisines you won’t find anywhere else in town.

D’arry’s

If you are a tourist, then naturally you want to sample the best a country has to offer. With Britain in mind, there is no better place to visit than D’Arry’s, on King Street. By offering a wide variety of artisan British cheeses from their own on-site cheese monger, you’ll be absolutely spoiled for choice, all while being surrounded in a traditional yet quirky restaurant, that truly encapsulates the essence of Cambridge.

Kimchili

Until recently, authentic Korean options in Cambridge were few and far between, but KimChilli is the city’s newest and most exciting addition to the scene. This small, minimalist spot brings a brilliant buzz to the street, complete with K-drama posters on the walls and an incredibly friendly, chatty team. The menu offers excellent traditional dumplings, crispy savoury jeon pancakes, and exciting sharing platters like their legendary tender Korean ribs. It is a fantastic addition to King Street, serving up authentic dishes with an atmosphere that hits the mark every single time.

King Street Brew House

The King Street Brew House has successfully reinvented itself following a recent refurbishment, but crucially, it hasn’t lost that essential city pub charm. It is a proper ‘meat and beer’ destination that dares to be different, complete with sports on the big screen, spacious rooms, and its very own on-site smoker. What really sets this place apart is the on-site microbrewery, serving up a diverse and rotating range of craft beers brewed right before your eyes.

Effes

Efes is an absolute institution in Cambridge. It has been serving the local community with traditional Turkish cuisine for coming up to thirty years, and in that time, it has built a massive cult-like following. Inside, the atmosphere is lively and bustling, driven by the theatre of the open grills firing up right in front of your eyes. Combined with some of the warmest, most engaging family-friendly service in the city and remarkably competitive prices, it is easily one of the best Turkish dining experiences in town.

13 Weeks Café

King Street has gained a fantastic new independent spot, and it brings a completely fresh concept to the city centre. The clever hook behind the name is that their menu evolves every thirteen weeks to cycle through fresh, globally inspired flavours, giving you a constant excuse to keep returning. Crucially, while the dishes rotate, the menu always keeps the core essence of its West African and Nigerian cuisine at its heart, alongside reliable staples like their jerk chicken and freshly baked banana bread.

Make sure you try: Jerked Chicken Baggette

Raja Indian Restaurant

For anyone visiting the UK, trying an Indian is an absolute must. Having a curry and a pint of beer is as British as drinking a cup of tea. If you are looking for a great Indian, then look no further than Raja. The team not only offers a great selection of curries but does a superb thali selection for a more authentic Indian experience too. Operating under the motto “the ballad of East and West,” the large menu perfectly balances British-Indian fusion classics with traditional street food. The restaurant has an almost living room vibe with cosy window booths, making it an incredibly warm, characterful place to settle in.

Make sure you try: Thali

Cherry Pit

Are you an American feeling homesick for pumpkin pie? Then The Cherry Pit is the one for you. Set in a small café in the style of a 1950s diner, this quirky shop also sells vinyl alongside a selection of different pies. Pie is literally all they do here, making it a fantastic, unique spot for a sweet pick-me-up or a catch-up with friends. They bake everything fresh daily and operate on a first-come, first-served basis – meaning once it’s gone, it’s gone! Make sure you get your arse down here early before they sell out for the day.

Just watch out, as it sells out fast!

Make sure you try: Cherry Pie (but make sure you visit early, as it runs out)
