Since The Ivy Cambridge opened in Cambridge in 2018, I’ve been meaning to visit. I’m not sure what’s put me off – there always seemed to be another option I fancied more, but last night I finally went for a family member’s 70th birthday and oh boy did it impress!
We were given the show stopping centre table at the back, number 63 for those wishing to book. We were greeted by the host at the door who offered to take our coats and store in the cloakroom for our ease. The waitress then led us to the table.
Throughout the meal everything was perfectly paced. This was a nice surprise as I had heard from a close friend that it can feel rushed.
The drink selection was impressive with a range of gins, cocktails, wines and spirits to please even the fussiest of drinkers. I went for the blood orange gin which looked great and tasted equally as pleasant.
There was a range of food ordered and each dish was served hot and was tasty and well-presented. The highlights for me were the aromatic duck curry, salt and pepper squid, the lobster linguine and the steak tartare.
For dessert, the fig and pistachio feuillete was a show stopper.
The only negative was the chocolate bombe was a little underwhelming after the glorious food served before.
Overall, it was a fabulous meal in an atmospheric setting not far from something out of The Orient Express. It was also great service which leaves you feeling valued as a customer. I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest place but for a large group for a special occasion, you couldn’t get much better.
Well done The Ivy!
