Tivoli Cambridge

Last weekend we took the chance to visit the newly reopened Tivoli, which once was a Weatherspoons before a fire a few years back and for the older readers it used to be a pretty decent student bar before that, as long as you had one of those yellow discount cards anyway…

The new entrance to Tivoli

Most major cities seem to have these themed activity bars nowadays with offerings such as mini golf, shuffle board, VR experiences and even party darts. Having visited a few in London, Manchester and Cheltenham. These are great fun for a date night, work parties and meet ups with friends.

Each floor

From the outset Tivoli looks to finally fill this gap in Cambridge, they have two interactive crazy golf courses on the first floor, two shuffle boards in the basement, a roof top bar, a pizza outlet and even the Cambridge favourite, Steak and Honour located inside.

Electric greens

This visit we opted for the golf which for £7.5 per person, I felt this was good value as the holes were top notch and the atmosphere was fun and friendly. We would of preferred actual score cards instead of the app as this meant we had to keep getting our phone out to keep score, this would be annoying for a the person left to do this of a group of 4 or more. Your allowed to take your drinks on the course so we of course decided to sample the offerings, all of which reasonably priced for the city centre.

Other highlights from the visit; the views from the roof top bar of Jesus lane and the river cam, the ease in ordering steak and honour directly to the table and the interior worked really well with the atmosphere, the place has a great vibe.

A Few gripes, the bar tender served a gin in a straight glass and when I asked for a fish bowl glass I was informed they were for the Whitney gIns only, he obliged in the end but it shouldn’t of even been a discussion in my eyes, they weren’t branded Whitney glasses as the first gin ordered came in said glass… and if I’m honest the shuffle board area in the basement feels a bit of a last minute addition without the care and thought as the rest of the venue.

The basement – shuffle board

100% Tivoli is worth a visit though for anyone wanting to try something a bit different in Cambridge, with a great selection of cocktails and an excuse to have a Steak and honour at the same time, I’m sure to return with friends in the near future.
