Scott’s All Day, Mill Road

Can’t decide between pancakes or a fry up? Why not have both in one with the Lumberjack Special!

Sourcing is key at Scott’s, with the meat coming from the Mill Road butcher next door and you can even grab yourself a craft beer from the brewery down the road. This result is fresh food that tastes great while you get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you are supporting your local community.

Permit Room, Trinity Street

A truly special breakfast from the sister restaurant of Dishoom, the Permit Room’s ‘Full Permit’ hits all the right spots. This delicious meal strikes a perfect balance between comforting familiarity and excitement, a testament to its focus on sourcing quality ingredients. It is a compelling mash-up of the classic full English and intriguing desi flavours, with highlights including rich masala beans and spiced scrambled eggs known as akuri.

Lot 25, Willingham

Lot 25 has launched a brand new breakfast menu and their full English is a genuine revelation. The star of the show is the thick-cut, locally sourced bacon from the Over butcher down the road, which is complemented by incredible cherry tomatoes and great coffee from Hot Numbers. All of this is served in a beautiful garden setting giving real holiday vibes.

Botany Foodie, Mill Road

Sit outdoors and watch Mill Road fly by while munching on their Special Turkish Breakfast. This behemoth of a breakfast comes with your typical Middle Eastern breakfast but with a simit (a circular pretzel-like bread) and a bowl of menemen (a tomato-based omelette served with green peppers and herbs).

Hot Numbers, Shepreth

Hot Numbers do more than supply excellent coffee to other local restaurants but also cook a mean breakfast too. Their bacon Maple Buttermilk Pancakes are absolutely sublime and served within a spacious and quirky restaurant with beautiful views of the countryside. No prizes are given for guessing the coffee they serve here 😂

The Tap Room, St Ives

I was completely blown away by my recent visit to The Taproom where their incredible full English breakfast put all others to shame. It featured a whole Cumberland sausage ring, a thick slab of pork that was a million miles away from your typical bacon, and a stunning potato terrine. A fried egg is served on a slice of sourdough toast, accompanied by a little pot of home made brown sauce.

The coffee is supplied from Ely-based Brew Project, that may very well be my favourite local coffee 😍

Tiffin Truck, Regent Street

The Tiffin Truck, a fantastic Indian street food restaurant in Cambridge, serves what is arguably one of the city’s best desi breakfasts.
Their thali-style Bombay Breakfast is a staggering feast. It includes an omelette, Suji ka halwa (semolina pudding), aloo paratha (potato-stuffed flatbread), poori bhaji (puffed bread and potato fritter), dosa (a thin pancake), dhokla (a savoury sponge), and poha (a flatbread rice dish). You can then wash it all down with your choice of tea, coffee, or juice.
This incredible variety makes it a fun, flavourful, and an utterly unforgettable experience. It’s an absolute must for anyone who fancies a breakfast with a real zing!
