“AD” – Why is this here?
St Ives is a real foodie hotspot in Cambridgeshire, with a growing reputation for fantastic places to eat. This means that standing out can be a challenge.

I was recently invited by the team at Burger Boys to explore their menu, and I was keen to see if they could meet this challenge as a top-notch burger joint.
Easy Access
The first thing that caught my attention was how easy Burger Boys is to get to. Located on the outskirts of St Ives (next to the Co-op), it means you don’t have to battle for a space in the town centre. Better yet, parking is free! I simply pulled up and walked right in – easy peasy!

Bombay Burger
The menu is a great size and focuses, as you would expect, on burgers. But it also offers a solid selection of sides, including chicken wings, chicken bites, and a variety of interesting fry options. There is plenty here to satisfy any craving while also not being so vast that you worry that the quality will suffer.

I couldn’t resist the Bombay Bad Boy. This burger came with two decent-sized smash patties, cheese, lettuce, and fresh tomato, all held together in a beautiful brioche bun. The addition of ghost chilli mayo and roquito peppers gave it an exciting, fiery kick with a subtle sweetness that added another dimension to the flavour. Despite the oozing juiciness from those double patties, the burger held together perfectly – a sign of a truly well-made burger.

Texas BBQ

The Texas BBQ was another strong contender. With two patties, cheese, turkey rashers, mayonnaise, lettuce, and a smoky BBQ sauce, it isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it takes a classic and simply does it well.

The turkey rashers worked brilliantly as a substitute for bacon, adding a nice twist, and the brioche bun held up strong even with the generous amount of BBQ sauce.

Chicken Bites

For me, one of the highlights of my visit was the ghost chilli chicken bites. They were absolutely stunning to look at, with vibrant colours from the spring onions, sesame seeds, and ghost chillies. The portion was generous and a lot larger than I was expecting.

The chicken itself was perfectly cooked, the skin was crispy with a hint of sweetness, and the meat inside was incredibly juicy and tender. The ghost chillies delivered a serious fiery kick at the end, which will be a real challenge for most people – but it really hit the spot! Be warned!
Loaded Fries
My wife and I have been on a bit of a quest to find good loaded fries that deliver to our area in Sutton but unfortunately we have had no luck so far. So, I was keen to see if Burger Boys’ version would meet our high standards and deliver to our area.

I was pleased to learn that Burger Boy’s do a mean loaded fries. It is served with “meat and cheese” which was a little vague, as it doesn’t specify the type of meat, but I was quick to learn that it was a type of mince. The box of chips was absolutely slathered in American cheese, making it gooey, stringy, and trashy (all in the right kind of ways 🤣). This is exactly how loaded fries boxes should be and all the cheese seeped into every single nook and cranny of the box.

The fries themselves were thin-cut and cooked to an acceptable standard, and the spring onions added a satisfying crunch. The only disappointment was discovering that they don’t deliver to my area, so our quest continues! 😭
A belting local takeaway that I wish delivered to my area!

Burger Boys is a fantastic little discovery and easily offers one of the best burger experiences in the area. With its wide variety of cuisines, St Ives has a lot to offer, but Burger Boys is now near the top of my list for burgers.
