Buffalo Joe’s – Northstowe

Chicken burgers are frequently overlooked by restaurants in favour of their beef equivalent. You can tell that some establishments put in a half-hearted effort, almost like they resent them being on the menu in the first place because it ‘isn’t true meat’.

Luckily, some restaurants (such as Lazy Boys and Buffalo Joe’s) are championing chicken burgers by putting them centre stage where they proudly deserve!

Running since 2013 from their ‘crazy converted Citroen h van’, Buffalo Joe’s has gone from strength to strength and has now opened a restaurant in Bishop’s Stortford. They can also be identified by their ‘Green Machine’ van which visits across the county and beyond, to places such a Northstowe, ‘foodPark’ Cambridge, and The Plough in Great Shelford.

Chicken burgers cost £10.50 and their portion of wings are £9. You can go for a deal which gives you a burger and a half portion of wings for £14, essentially saving you £1. They also have a restaurant which provides a more extensive selection of food on the menu. The van has a choice of chicken, halloumi, and two vegan burgers. They have four wing options which include BBQ, ‘Honey G Wings’, Korean Wings, and their signature ‘Buffalo Wings’

Both my son and I decided to go for the chicken burger. We couldn’t resist trying their Korean wings either. Not because Korean wings are one of my favourites and aren’t often available in my area but because they won 2nd place at Wingfest in 2017 and even won ‘judges choice’ too. There was no way I was going to visit without giving these bad boys a go!

A whopping great big burger in the sunset! 😎

How many times do you see an advert of a burger looking proud and mighty only to find it looking flat and anemic in person? This has sadly become the expectation these days but I can safely say that the chicken burgers at Buffalo Joe’s matches my expectation.

This monster comes with candied bacon to make it extra sweet. The fried chicken is so big that it sticks out the sides of the bun which also gives each bite a succulent and crispy crunch. Everything about this burger is perfect from the bun which held it together perfectly to the complex sweet and savoury taste. This might just be one of the best burgers I have ever had!

The wings are absolutely superb! This is a dish that I am always surprised is not sold more regularly, as they are always well received everywhere I have found them. With that said, these are some of the best Korean chicken wings I have had. Juicy, sticky, sweet, and a warm spice which builds up the more you eat. Everything you want from Korean wings and more!

If you order a meal deal you get a half portion of chicken wings of your choice. I presumed this would not be enough for my son and I, so we ordered a £9 portion to accompany it. This essentially doubled our two half portions to two whole portions each. This…was far too much for us! Do not underestimate Buffalo Joe’s portion sizes. It took us a second round at home with help from my wife to get us over the line 🤣

Buffalo Joe’s has shown me one hell of a time tonight, with the best Korean wings I have ever had, along with (in my opinion) one of the best burgers in town. In fact, I will be adding it to No1 in my burger league table!
