5 Miles From Anywhere ‘No Hurry Inn’ – Upware

The boys and I decided to meet up for a catch up at a popular local pub/restaurant called the ‘5 Miles From Anywhere’.

This is a great place to get away from it all and is a common place for boat owners to rock up and have a pint and something to eat. It is not literally 5 miles from anywhere with the village of Wicken quite close by but is still a very isolated place that offers a quiet tranquil escape from the world with beautiful fenland scenery.

The menu isn’t very inspiring for foodies but has a wide selection. Expect things like burgers, pizza, and roast dinners. The sort of accessible and universally enjoyed meals you want when stopping off by the river for the afternoon with the family or friends.

I noticed ‘Chicago Town Pizza’ on the menu. A part of me wondered whether this was literally frozen ‘Chicago Town’ pizza or if it’s just a Chicago style of pizza with the same name. Upon ordering with one of my guests, we came to the conclusion that it was indeed a frozen pizza from the supermarket.

The pub is Greene King, so the beer selection is not going to blow anyone away but I was pleased to see ‘Flint Eye’, a dry hopped lager and ‘Level Head’ a sessionable IPA. I quite like Level Head so decided to go for a pint which came to £5.

I went for a roast dinner from the Sunday Roast board. There was a choice between beef, pork, lamb, turkey, and chicken or ‘beef, pork, and lamb’ in a mixed platter. Prices hovered around £15-16 mark.

I had the mixed roast dinner. The place was rammed even for a Sunday afternoon but the food came out in good time. The staff did a great job with managing the huge numbers of people out today. The roast was accompanied with broccoli, carrots, cabbage, potatoes, and a yorkie.

Portions were about right but the food was very ordinary and didn’t partially stand out. Everything was flat on flavour and it was hard to tell between the meats. The Yorkshire pudding was the one saving grace that was not only a good size but tasted great.

I’ve been spotted!

The 5 Miles From Anywhere offers a pleasant riverside experience on a scale not matched anywhere else. The outdoor seating area is huge and there are few better places to sit by the river on a Sunday afternoon. The food is passable but is not going to win any awards but is good enough to satisfy the average punter.
