Big sandwiches @ Meadows – Mill Road

My mum swung by the house today with lunch from a new shop called ‘Meadows’. This is the second of two stores, one located on Mill Road and the other located in Newnham. It claims to be a ‘kitchen and cheesemonger’ but also offers a selection of freshly baked breads and other baked goods, sandwiches, cakes, and fresh fruit and veg. As I have not been in the shop myself the best I can do is offer you a link to their website for more details.

They proudly boast supporting regenerative farming, small independents and local businesses, fitting well into that Mill Road community ideology. So you will find a lot of high quality products and produce that you will be unable to find in the supermarket.

My mum was kind enough to take a photo of the menu as she knew I would want to write about it. The sandwiches to takeaway are £7.45 each and come from a choice of 4 main ‘protein’ options, along with a selection of 3 filings.

I decided to go for the ham and parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese) and my mum picked the hummus and aubergine. The salad of the day was quinoa, carrots, and peppers, and was served in a plastic tub.

As you can see on the menu, there are also grazing plates and cakes available but after a morning breakfast at Grain Culture, I decided to behave myself.

They don’t do things in halves here. The sandwiches were bloody huge! Not only that but it was visually georgous

On first impressions the ham looked a little stingy but open taking a bite the flavour really cut through. A clear example of the value of quality over quantity. The bread was absolutely superb and incredibly big, soft, and fluffy. I was very impressed!

The quinoa salad was the perfect light side for this monster of a sandwich and accompanied it perfectly. There was enough in the pot to give two people a polite portion each.

I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich from Meadows. Grabbing a sandwich isn’t something I often get excited about for lunch but with freshly baked bread, high quality ham and cheese, and big portions, this really is a fulfilling and delicious treat.

There’s no doubt I’ll be back to investigate further!
