Our very own Cambridge Foodie and Dip Sauce owner Daniel has invaded The Swoop Retail Taproom to show the world the very best of what his sauces (and cooking skills) have to offer.

I’m a big fan of The Swoop after visiting their beer taster master class last month. For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Swoop, they are a retail taproom which sells only locally sourced products from the Cambridgeshire area. This includes craft beer which is served on tap and is frequently changed.

Dips Sauce has been going from strength to strength lately and I’m seeing them pop up all over the place. I was only in Twenty Pence Garden Centre recently and saw them for sale in the hot sauce section.

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about the Dips range on the Cambridge Foodies Facebook group. For those people interested in exploring what the range is about, I recommend visiting the next Dips Sauce event at The Swoop to really get an understanding of what they have to offer.

For £18 we were given a selection of everything on the menu. There was a choice of different wing styles from chipotle and lime all the way through to their new hot sauce. There really is something for everyone here and any fan of chicken wings is not going to leave feeling like they’ve not found something they’ve enjoyed.

The photo shows a portion for four people but rest assured we were all thoroughly defeated by the end. What I love about Dips Sauce is the vibrant colour of the sauce. The meal was a visual feast with vivid colours such as oranges, reds, greens, and purples popping off the table. It’s a great sauce to make your food look a lot more lively!

We were also treated to rainbow slaw, corn on the cob, and skin on chips for the sake of dietary balance. This was very welcome otherwise we would have been left with nothing but a huge portion of protein for dinner.

Daniel isn’t stingy with the sauce either. Some of the wings were absolutely slavered in his signature sauce (as they should be!). Just make sure to ask for napkins as this is a very messy meal!

The event was a great opportunity to chat with Daniel himself and ask any questions we may have had about range. It’s always reassuring to meet the face behind a brand which is something you can rarely do with a lot of products. I highly recommend taking advantage of this if you are a big fan of the range and want to learn more.

The chipotle and lime was one of my favourites. The difference between Dips Sauce and other sauces is the lean towards more zesty flavour rather than the usual brainless “as hot and spicy as you can make it” sauces. This really complimented the chicken with the limes perfectly.

The Dips Hot Sauce wings were great, though personally could have been a little hotter. This is to be expected with the type of sauce Dips is trying to be, so is probably unfair for me to say.

The guys and I were thoroughly stuffed by the end of the meal and we were all in agreement that £18 was a fair price. It was great being able to sit out on the stunning Green Street with a locally made craft beer from their tap room. It’s also worth noting that they have a basement which has two tables so large numbers can be managed.
