Tacoman @ the Dinky Drinky Box

I was lucky enough to finally be able to catch Tacoman at a Dinky Drinky Box event in Toseland (St Neots).

Advert – Lalbagh Indian restaurant, Bourn

I have lost count as the amount of times I have seen Tacoman advertised at Thirsty or popping up at Brewboard on days I was unavailable. It was getting frustrating and the fact that I was unable to catch it only made me want it more.

I was already visiting the ‘Dinky Drinky Box’ for their Overton Tap Takeover event and had heard that their food van was making an appearance. I was delighted to be able to finally catch him as I knew that I’d be able to enjoy it in the sun with a quality beer ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Tacoman sells exactly what you would expect…tacos. If you are looking for anything else your only option is nachos.

Choices range from spicy beef, shrimp, and pork. There is also a cauliflower and squash vegetarian on option. These occasionally change, so if you visit you may see alternative choices on the menu. Prices range from ยฃ12 for meat tacos and ยฃ9 for the vegetarian tacos. All options are gluten free and served soft shell style.

First up was the Quesabirria ‘spicy beef’ tacos. This is slow cooked beef, salsa raja, melted cheese, pico de gallo, and a side of consomme for dunking.

These came in a portion of 3 and were presented in a card box with a half cut lime. They were absolutely superb and one of the highlights of my meal. The soft shell meant that they can be fried together giving them a cheesy wrap feel. The tortilla was clearly good quality as they held together well after frying.

Next up was the pork tacos, also called Nduja & Carnitas Tacos. These are also slow cooked with not only pork but nduja sausage, avocado crema, pico de gallo, picked red onion, coriander lime, and hot salsa.

I didn’t get a good photo of the pork tacos but I must admit, this was not as exciting as the spicy beef. The tacos leaked a lot of liquid which made it messy to eat and quite watery. They were also quite anemic and lacked any real flavour. My wife disagreed with me and really enjoyed them herself, so I left them for her to finish.

My father in law had the shrimp tacos which came with butter, habanero fried shrimp, avocado crema, Mexican slaw, salsa verde, pickled red onion, pico de gallo, coriander and lime. These were very well received quoting the word ‘excellent’. ๐Ÿ‘

The nachos were nice, light, and crispy. These were apparently ‘California style’ which meant that they were lacking cheese. Unfortunately, I really missed the cheese and it felt like high quality Doritos with sauces. The jalapenos were nice and had a mild kick to them but I couldn’t help but feel like the nachos were missing something, especially in the texture department.

I will say that the salsa was absolutely fantastic and one of the finest salsas I have ever had.

It was great to be able to enjoy these at the Dinky Drinky Box in Toseland. This meant that I was able to have them alongside a craft beer from the Overtone Brewery. The sun was out, the beer was cold, and I had tacos. An award winning combination.

Have you visited Tacoman? What did you think?
