We were on our way back from Suffolk and decided to pick up a takeaway on our way past Ely.
My son is a big fan of Turkish food, so we popped in to ‘Ely Turkish Restaurant & Meze Bar’ on Forehill. My wife and I have dined in here before and we are both big fans.

We noticed the “Ely Special” for £49.95 on their menu. This is a 4 person set that consists of adana kofte, lamb sish, chicken sish, chicken wings, with rice, cous cous, and salad.
Being a big chap, I have always been skeptical of portion sizes in restaurants, so sharing a 4 person meal between the 3 of us was a reassuring choice.

We were given two large trays of meat on a bed of rice and cous cous. Each one contained one adana kofte (minced meat kebab), several chicken wings, some lamb chops, and ribs.

My concerns about portion size were firmly put to rest. We managed to eat it all but were stuffed. I feel the 4 portions are accurate and a fair representation of what a portion should be.

One of the stand out dishes about the Ely Special was, surprisingly, the salad. We were given two in a polystyrene container that came with salad leaves, cucumber, carrots, and a mixture of other greens all covered in a light oil. I thought these were superb and really added some much needed colour to the meal.

I asked for an extra garlic sauce because I wrongly assumed that we would get a small pot between us. Not only were they kind enough to give me an extra one at no extra charge but it turns out that the garlic sauce was in food container portions! Impressive!
My wife and I were also impressed with the salsa that was not only delicious and tasted fresh but also had a spicy kick.
We were all very happy with the Ely Special at the Ely Turkish Restaurant. The service is fast and professional, the food is great, and portions are a decent size. £50 seems fair too, especially considering that we would have likely spent £15-20 each on our own meals, so it felt like we were getting an extra portion free.
