It has been a long time coming but I finally managed to pop into Limoncello for a spot of lunch. I have been very excited about this one, as it is exactly the sort of place I like to visit on my day off.

Limoncello is an Italian style deli cafe, located in the heart of Mill Road. It offers a wide selection of products, ranging from deli meats, pastas, olives, and cheese.
I didn’t realise until a few months ago that it also offers a sit-in bistro experience too, with a range of Italian dishes from their al fresco patio area.

Speaking of the patio area, I was surprised at how big it is. From the outside, Limoncello looks tiny but like many restaurants and cafes on Mill Road, it has a real arse on it, which opens up at the back. It is mostly covered by a canopy, making it good for any occasion and even has a selection of blankets for those colder months. Yup, you can pop by any time of year for something to eat and drink. No excuses!

My mum had one of their stone baked margarita pizzas, which came to just under £12. This is the cheapest pizza on the menu with the list of other Italian style pizzas going up to £17.85 each. This makes them one of the most expensive pizza places I have been to recently. With that said, this margarita pizza is one of the best examples I have had too. The base was thin and crispy with a soft succulent topping, thanks to a generous amount of sauce. It was light and very satisfying.
I will be adding this pizza to my Simon’s Quest pizza league table but I feel I need to visit again and explore more options before I get a more accurate opinion, so it’s position may change.

We decided to split a shared antipasto board between us. I thought that this would give us a good idea of the quality in the ingredients at Limoncello. Being a deli, I was very confident that it was not going to disappoint and I was exactly right. This came to £21.50 and came accompanied with a selection of freshly cut meats, bread, and cheeses.

Everything on the board was excellent and the portion size was generous for two people. The pairing of bread with the meat matched perfectly, with a lovely outer crust and a soft centre. It is also cut into manageable slices which makes it easy to pile meat and cheese on top while still keeping things bite sized. The bread had a light delicate flavour which allows the meat and cheese to stand out and show off their quality, while still adding a great texture to the bite.
Simply marvellous!

I couldn’t resist going for one of Limoncello’s ciabattas. This is essentially an Italian white bread sandwich.
I went for the green pesto, mozzarella, salad, cooked ham, and sun blushed tomatoes which came to £8.25 and £6.75 to takeaway.

I was really fond of this. I particularly enjoyed the generous salad portion which made the ciabatta nice and crispy. In fact, there may have been half a salad pack in mine but I was not complaining. 🤣
The ciabatta itself was lovely and soft yet still had the structural integrity to hold everything together. The pesto and tomato added a nice juicy texture as well as a bold flavour. The ham, as you would expect from a deli, was also very good. It was a generous portion, light, with a subtle flavour, which worked with the other ingredients in the sandwich rather than overpower it. A fine example of the Italian delicacy.

It was a short and sweet lunch experience at Limoncello. I can see why it’s so popular on Mill Road. The quality of everything sold here is premium and it is a pleasant place to be. There is a wide selection of products with something for everyone, no matter what your tastes. I could have spent all afternoon looking at all their products and could see myself food shopping here if I lived a little closer, particularly with their pasta, sauces, cured meats and cheese.

I look forward to revisiting again for a more in depth look at what they have to offer, especially the pizza menu, their tiramisu, and the truffle tagliatelle. I would also like to explore their cheeses selection too, as there was a whole double fridge absolutely filled that I barely got a chance to see.
Thanks for reading.
