Mediterranean Falafel @ Ely Market

It was a beautiful sunny (but very cold) winters day at the Ely market.

Walking through with my son, we fancied something different. Unfortunately, we have tried every food van the market has to offer, so finding that something different has been getting harder and harder lately.

Luckily, we stumbled across a food van that I had not seen before – Mediterranean Falafel. Just when you think you have Ely market beat, it surprises you!

As the name suggests, they offer authentic Mediterranean falafel wraps. In fact, half the menu is vegetarian. There are two chicken options with the choice to add falafel and halloumi for an extra £1.

👍 Their falafels are also gluten free!

I didn’t get a chance to take many photos as I was too busy chin wagging but I ordered the chicken harissa box for £8 and my boy had their mixed wrap for £8.

We were given a wide selection of toppings, ranging from lettuce, cabbage, chilli peppers, cucumber, and tomato. I went for everything, obviously. The portions were good, especially with the chicken which was piled up nicely. The chicken was absolutely beautiful. It was tender, juicy, and covered in spicy flavour. This was then topped up with a drizzle of garlic sauce that pulled everything together perfectly. Top marks!

I apologise in advance for the poor photo here but getting one by the time it reached my son’s mouth is actually quite an achievement in itself. This is the mixed wrap, which consisted of falafel and halloumi grilled cheese served with hummus and chilli sauce. My boy is a big meat eater but thoroughly enjoyed this vegetarian dish. He spoke of it with an enthusiasm that I have not heard from him in a while, which says a lot. I was impressed at the size of the wrap and you could tell that it was generously packed.

Mediterranean Falafel was a good little find in the market. It is easy to miss as they currently don’t have a sign on their van for the time being. The chaps are delightful and the food is great quality. Keep an eye out for this one as you won’t be disappointed!
