Boom Battle Bar and Escape Hunt UK

I was invited to the launch event of the brand new ‘Boom Battle Bar’ located in Cambridge on Regent Street.

Lalbagh Indian restaurant

Yes, it’s the place where Wagamamas used to be but instead takes up three whole floors, making it MASSIVE!

What is a Boom Battle Bar and how does it differ from a regular bar, I hear you ask?

Well, it is a bar with a nightclub vibe that has a wide variety of games and activities, ranging from American Pool, Augmented Reality Darts and Axe Throwing, Beer Pong, Karaoke and Shuffle Board. It even has an escape room on the top floor for people who enjoy thinking on a night out.

Axe Throwing with beer, what could possibly go wrong? 🤣

I didn’t get many photos of the event but I did manage to make a video on our Instagram page. Make sure to check it out and give us a follow while you are there 👍

The bar looks superb. It is big, open, spacious, and covered in neon signs and fluorescent lighting, with a fun carefree atmosphere. The staff were hyped up to 11 with an energy that Jim Carey would struggle to keep up with, clearly trying to set an example of the positive energy they want to see from their customers. There were bubbles, dancers, fire poi, and a DJ – You name it!

The beer selection is passable, with several popular premium beers, Guinness, and cider. I didn’t see any craft beer but there was a Brixton Brewery pale ale. Cocktails were available along with prosecco.

The Escape Room

We were treated to a visit in the Excalibur escape room, a mythical themed experience based on the legend of King Arthur. The aim is to pull out the sword in the stone after solving a series of puzzles and tasks to access it.

Now, I’ll admit, having to think and solve puzzles during a night out is my idea of hell but luckily I was joined by the Cambridge Foodies team, who just so happen to be real brain boxes.

Sean and Gerry looking rather proud

We were given a series of clues to solve the riddle that unlocked Excalibur’s sword. There is a drum you can use to summon help from the staff outside, if you get stuck. I won’t give away anything or drop any spoilers but there tasks were great at keeping within the theme of the escape room and were imaginative

With absolutely zero help from me, we managed to solve the room in 50 minutes without needing any support from the staff. Apparently, it was an impressive score and we were given a photo of the team to celebrate our success and immortalise our moment of glory.

Conclusion

Sushi & Salad, Ely

Boom Battle Bar has to be one of the funnest places in Cambridge. Our fair city has always been good for restaurants, stuffy old pubs serving great beer, and historic architecture but it has never been great for night life. This may be the first place where I feel Cambridge has a venue that is worthy of a night out. It manages to pull off the trick being a place for drinks, corporate events, hosting events, or just a place to hang.

For anyone looking for an adults playground, this is it.
