Cafe Foy is a small independent restaurant located on Quayside, run by a brother and sister duo. It has one of the most enticing Instagram pages in Cambridge which has been luring me for some time. Today, I finally took the plunge and ticked off this popular foodie hotspot.

As the name suggests, Quayside is right by the river, where all the action is. You can sit back, relax, and watch the punts go by, all behind the historic back drop off the colleges.

It is the ideal place for a charming cafe like this and as Cambridge as it gets!

The sun was out and I had no other plans for the rest of the day, so I decided to indulge in one of their spritzers (hey, I’m not made of stone 🤣). It felt almost like being on holiday or on a city break. Eventually, one spritz led to two and I was in my element. Life is good!

I was also impressed with their beer selection, with a choice between two Belgium beers on draft, called Vedett. Top marks! 🍻

Baguette

The menu changes frequently at Cafe Foy, making it hard to plan in advance if you are after something specific. But this also allows them to keep things seasonal, varied, and encourages you to keep coming back.

Today, on their specials board was a delicious sounding “Jambon-beurre” or French ham baguette, served with chillies, pickles, and pickled onions.

What makes the jambon-beurre so appealing (especially from a food blogger perspective) is that it is served sliced open, so you can see everything inside. This stunning piece of craftsmanship looked utterly superb with thick chunks of French ham and parmesan cheese lightly grated on top, all served together in a rustic looking sourdough baguette.

The baguette was a masterpiece…I mean, look at that!

Asparagus Soup

As previously mentioned, the Cafe Foy Instagram page is one of my favourites and full of beautiful pictures of their food. This is not only credit to the photographer but the chef who is able to produce photogenic dishes that really jump off the screen.

The asparagus soup was a classic example of this. It came served with spinach and creme fraiche on a charming wooden board with bread & butter. It was absolutely beautiful!

The soup was thick and creamy with a subtle flavour of asparagus, without the slight bitterness you sometimes get. It was sweet with large toasted croutons swimming on top, that gave a satisfying crunch. It was a soup that had it all.

The service from start to finish was flawless, with the staff all being as friendly as they were attentive. I could see them chatting away to other tables offering more than just a service. But even if it was slow in some sort of hypothetical situation, it didn’t matter, as I was riverside with a spritz, kicking back in the sun. Good times were happening! ☀️

Cafe Joy!

I left Cafe Foy with a full belly and a spring in my step. On a day like today, it genuinely felt like I was abroad. It isn’t often I leave without a single fault or niggle but today was one of those rare occasions where everything was perfect, without it breaking the bank. Cafe Foy is my favourite cafe in Cambridge and I can’t see that changing any time soon.
