The White Horse: Waterbeach (A little gem)

The White Horse is found in the village of Waterbeach north of Cambridge. With plenty of parking and easy access, it’s very welcoming with friendly and attentive staff. Shout out to Emma who simply knows how good service is done!

The pub offers very reasonable lunch options and includes main menu discounts for seniors and some lunch periods. We obviously couldn’t try everything on the menu in one trip, however I have previously enjoyed the pizza here. Today we had a carbonara, house burger and BLT with chips.

The large rim makes the portion look small in the photo but I assure you it’s decent. Our chef today was Marcin and he knows his stuff, cooking crispy bacon and very nice carbonara delicately coated in the typical Italian style.

The BLT, served in ciabatta, was well layered and a decent mouthful. From the £7.50 lunch menu it’s definitely value for money, filling and tasty… 3 of my favourite things. The chips, twice cooked hand cut, are crisp and perfectly complete the lunch.

Finally, we have the house burger. Although served in a brioche bun (not my personal preference, however, it seems to becoming the norm) I’d definitely have it again (once I’ve worked through a little more of the menu). Bacon, cheese, mushrooms and relish all complement the beef very well without over stacking. They have a decent selection of burgers and attentive staff who will happily make a few changes to suit your taste.

After our lovely meal we felt more than welcome to stay as long as we wanted. Some places I feel want to clear the room too fast. We did move out to the garden as the area is very nice in the current weather. We ordered coffees and hot chocolate that rounded off the meal perfectly.

We sat just befoat the edge of this area; as you can see it has plenty of space and children are very welcome. If you haven’t been it’s well worth a trip. Remember to tell Emma Cambridge foodies Gerry says Hi and check what chef is in, while they are all top notch if Marcin is on duty you’re in for a treat.
