The Maids Head – Wicken

I’ve been coming to The Maids Head in Wicken for a couple of years now. I used to swing by after work for a cheeky pint before heading home.

From the outside, the pub is visually stunning. In fact, I have had this pub on my radar for years as I used to drive past it often. When the benches are out and the sun is shining it looks incredibly appealing on that lovely green in the middle of the village. It’s a hard place to resist!

The bar has a fair selection of beer on tap. Nothing overly exciting but enough to please most people. I was glad to see one of my favourites on tap, the East Coast IPA. Ice Breaker was also available, as well as Aspall Cider and Estrella.

The staff were lovely and the place was as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. A truly historic old pub. It really fits into the beautiful village surroundings.

The pub offers a selection of fairly standard pub food. There is something for everyone here including pizzas, burgers, and grill. I have not had a chance to try the food yet but will be looking to do a review in the future. Watch this space.

Unfortunately, the evening was getting dark, so the pictures did not do The Maids Head justice but it was very open and spacious out here. I can really see this being a big hit with the sunny weather over the past few weeks. It was nice being able to see people bring their dogs while they had a pint too. This is very much a dog friendly venue.

There is no such thing as a good value beer anymore but prices weren’t insane. Two beers came to around £8 which was fairly competitive considering I paid £6 a pint in Ely the other day.

Has anyone else been to The Maids Head? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
